Oneonta, Geneseo Set to Meet in SUNYAC Women's Soccer Final

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Oneonta and Geneseo, after tying 0-0 in the regular season and finishing tied at 9-0-1 in the final standings, will meet in the SUNYAC Championship game Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the winner claiming the conference title and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Oneonta defeated Brockport 2-0 thanks to first-half goals from Brooke Davis (Grand Gorge/Stamford) and Tricia Jaeger (Baldwin/Baldwin). Davis' goal came 17:31 into the half and was set up by teammate Cristina Gaspar (New Rochelle/New Rochelle). The Red Dragons made it 2-0 at 35:02 of the first half when Jaeger headed in a cross at the far post from Alissa Karcz (South Huntington/Walt Whitman). Both teams traded opportunities in the second half but were unable to find the net.

Geneseo survived an amazing second-half comeback from the Cardinals of Plattsburgh with a 3-2 victory in overtime. Geneseo was in command late in the second half and seemed destined for Saturday's championship game until Emily Hodgdon (Colchester, VT/Colchester) rifled in a 25-yard shot with 10:31 remaining in the game. Then, with just 17 seconds left in regulation, Plattsburgh's Teresa Barber (Mechanicville/Stillwater) sent a ball into the box from the right side to Gena Rosenbaum (Morrisonville/Seton Catholic) who volleyed in the game-tying goal. Less than seven minutes into overtime, however, Geneseo ended the game on Nicole Santariello's (Fairport/Fairport) second goal of the game from in close. The Blue Knights took the lead in the game at the 27:21 mark of the second half on Santariello's first and got their second goal on a great individual effort from Logan Hadzicki (Portville/Portville) just over six minutes later.

This is the second consecutive year Oneonta and Geneseo have met in the championship game. Last year, The Red Dragons and Blue Knights battled to a 0-0 tie before Oneonta claimed the title in penalty kicks.
