ONEONTA PICKED TO WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT CONFERENCE TITLE

 

            FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Oneonta women’s soccer team has been picked by the SUNYAC coaches to win the SUNYAC Championship for the fifth consecutive year, receiving six first-place votes and 116 total points. The Red Dragons finished last season 10-0 and became the first SUNYAC team in women’s soccer history to hold their opponents scoreless in a 10-game schedule. Oneonta, over the last four seasons, has amassed a 48-0 record in the SUNYAC regular season and SUNYAC Tournament.

            Geneseo finished second with 111 points and five first-place votes. The Knights were

7-2-1 in the conference last season and played Oneonta to a 0-0 tie through regulation of the conference championship before falling in penalty kicks.

            Cortland took third in the poll, receiving 98 points. The Red Dragons were 8-2 in the 2002 campaign and conference semifinalists.

            Brockport and Plattsburgh were tied for fourth with 83 points. Both teams finished 7-3 last season and met in the SUNYAC Tournament Play-In with the Golden Eagles coming out on top 2-0.

            The conference season kicks off Wednesday, September 17th.
