Cortland Defends Women's Lacrosse SUNYAC Crown
The Red Dragon's receive automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament

FREDONIA, NY - The Cortland Red Dragons have captured their fifth State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Lacrosse Championship with a 17-7 victory over Geneseo in the SUNYAC finals.

Today's championship win gives Cortland their fourth consecutive title and their fifth in the six years of conference play. The Red Dragon's reached the finals by defeating fourth- seeded Oswego 23-4 on Friday. Second-seeded Geneseo edged out third-seeded Brockport, 10-9, to reach the championship game.

The conference coaches voted Cortland senior Brooke VandeWalker SUNYAC Player of the Year, and Geneseo's Liz Monte received Coach of the Year honors. Oneonta's Kim Powell and Oswego's Katie Carbonaro were voted as Co-First Year Players of the Year.

Cortland received an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III tournament with today's SUNYAC championship win.
