Batchelor Named SUNYAC Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year
Buffalo State head coach leads Bengals to NCAA tournament
FREDONIA, NY — The SUNYAC Women’s Basketball Coaches selected Buffalo State’s Fred Batchelor as the 2001-02 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year.
In only his second season as head women’s basketball coach at Buffalo State, Batchelor led his Bengals to a SUNYAC Championship and a berth to the NCAA Tournament. This past Saturday, the Bengals won the SUNYAC Women’s Basketball Tournament after defeating Cortland 56-50 in the finals. Buffalo State defeated Oswego in the first round (72-49) and Plattsburgh in the semifinals (49-34).
Buffalo State improved from a fifth place finish in the 2000-01 SUNYAC standings to first place this year with a 15-1 conference record and 25-3 overall. Buffalo State will host Ohio Wesleyan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on February 27, at 7 p.m.
