CORTLAND PICKED TO PLACE FIRST IN SUNYAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Cortland looks to capture their third consecutive conference championshipFREDONIA, NY -- The Cortland State Red Dragons women's basketball team enters the 2000-01 season favored to win the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship according to the pre-season coaches poll. Cortland has been victorious in the past two championships, including last years 65-52 win over Brockport. The Red Dragons finished the regular season 19-1 in the conference and 23-1 overall. Voted to finish second in the pre-season poll was Oneonta, receiving four first-place votes. Oneonta was defeated by Cortland in last years semi-finals 71-66. The Red Dragons of Oneonta will look to improve on their 1999-00 fourth place finish in SUNYAC. They were 13-7 in the conference and 15-9 overall. Also receiving first-place votes was Buffalo State who finished third in the pre-season poll. The Bengals had a SUNYAC record of 16-4 in 1999-00, which put them in second place in the conference. They were defeated in the semi-finals by Brockport 52-44.
