FREDONIA, NY After a vote of the conference basketball coaches, Oneonta's Dan McGraw was voted the 2000-01 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.
In only his second season as head women's basketball coach at Oneonta, McGraw has led his Red Dragon's to a SUNYAC Championship and a berth to the NCAA Tournament. This past Saturday, the Red Dragons won the SUNYAC Women's Basketball Tournament after defeating Cortland State 68-63 in the finals. With their three tournament wins last week, the Red Dragons of Oneonta add to their record breaking winning streak which currently stands at 24 games.
Last season, McGraw helped lead Oneonta to a 16-10 overall record and a fourth seed in the SUNYAC Tournament, which included a semifinal loss to Cortland 71-66. His first-year success in the 1999-2000 season earned him Co-Coach of the Year honors in the SUNYAC.
This season, with an almost flawless record of 19-1 in the SUNYAC and 26-1 overall, Oneonta receives a first-round bye in the NCAA tournament and will face either SUNYAC rival Cortland State or St. Lawrence on Saturday, March 3, 2001.
