SUNYAC ANNOUNCES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS

Cortland's Michelle Ciquera, Oswego's Mraz receive individual awards

FREDONIA, NY - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its 2004 Women's Basketball All-Conference teams, Player of the Year and First Year Player of the Year tonight at the annual SUNYAC Basketball Championship banquet at the Holiday Inn in Utica, NY. Cortland senior forward Michelle Ciquera (Massapequa/Massapequa) has been selected as the 2004 SUNYAC Player of the Year and Oswego State freshman guard Kelly Mraz (Johnstown/Johnstown) has been named the First Year Player of the Year.

Ciquera led the Red Dragons to a 22-4 overall record this season, as well as, a 14-2 conference record and top seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. Ciquera had a sensational senior season finishing in the top-10 of the conference in nearly every offensive category, including scoring, rebounding, field-goal percentage, assists, steals and assist to turnover ratio. Ciquera averaged 12.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game this season and will look to lead the Red Dragons to the title this weekend in Utica. Cortland has advanced the SUNYAC Championship game in each of the last three seasons but has been unable to capture the crown.

Mraz led an Oswego team that ended up 21-5 overall, 13-3 in the conference and the number three seed in the SUNYAC playoffs. She led the Lakers in scoring, steals and assists and finished the conference year in the top-10 in scoring, assists, steals, three-point percentage and three-point field goals made. Oswego will take on second-seeded Oneonta in the semifinal round of the playoffs on Friday night. The Red Dragons defeated the Lakers just over a week ago 45-40 on Feb. 18.
