SUNYAC ANNOUNCES WOMEN’S
BASKETBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
FREDONIA,
NY – The State University of New
York Athletic Conference announced its 2003 Women’s Basketball All-Conference
teams, as well as Player of the Year and First Year Player of the Year, tonight
at the annual SUNYAC Basketball Championship dinner at the Holiday Inn in
Utica, NY.
Brockport’s Kristen Clark (Hilton/Hilton) wins Player of the Year honors for
the second consecutive year. The senior
forward led the league in scoring with 363 points (22.7ppg) and field goal
percentage, shooting 60.3 percent from the field through the regular season. The senior forward also averaged 7.0
rebounds per game and shot 77.6 percent from the free throw line. Clark, a four-time SUNYAC Player of the Week
and an ECAC Player of the Week award winner, led the Golden Eagles to a third
seed in this year’s tournament.
Brockport faces second-seeded Buffalo State in women’s semifinal action
tomorrow at the Utica Memorial Auditiorium.
Brockport’s Meghan Squires (Johnsonville/Hoosic Valley) and Buffalo State’s Dionne Turnage (Buffalo/Traditional) earned
co-First Year Players of the Year honors for the
2002-03 season. Squires led Brockport
in rebounding averaging 7.2 rebounds per game and ranks second in the league in
field goal percentage, behind teammate Kristen Clark, shooting 56 percent from
the field. Turnage finished the regular
season second in scoring for the Bengals with 12.3 points per game. She also averaged 2.1 assists and grabbed 5.9
rebounds in her freshman campaign.
Turnage and the Bengals earned the second seed in this year’s tournament
and will square off against Brockport in tomorrow’s semifinals.
