Buffalo State Wins Womens SUNYAC Basketball Championships
Bengals earn NCAA Tournament berth
FREDONIA, NY The Buffalo State Bengals womens basketball team captured the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Womens Basketball Championship Saturday after defeating Cortland 56-50 in the finals.
Buffalo State entered the 2002 tournament as the number one seed after finishing with a 15-1 conference record. The Bengals defeated Oswego in the quarterfinals (72-49) and Plattsburgh in the semifinals (49-34) to advance to the championship game. Saturdays win over Cortland not only gives Buffalo State the SUNYAC Championship, but also an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Bengals will host Ohio Wesleyan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on February 27, at 7 p.m.
