2004 Volleyball SUNYAC Players of
the Week
November 8, 2004
SUNY Cortland senior setter Jamie McMullen (Castile, NY/Letchworth)
has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference
(SUNYAC) Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending
Nov. 7. McMullen was named the SUNYAC Tournament Most Valuable
Player as she led the 37-2 Red Dragons to their second straight
league title and 13th overall. She recorded 55 assists, five aces,
12 digs and three blocks in a 3-1 semifinal win over Oneonta.
In a 3-1 win over Geneseo in the championship match, she totaled
52 assists, six kills and eight digs.Cortland earned the league's
automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. The Red Dragons
will be making their 18th NCAA showing in a six-team regional
at Ithaca College this week. The second seed in the regional,
Cortland will receive a bye into the second round and will face
either CCNY or Ithaca on Friday evening.

SUNY Cortland sophomore outside hitter Katie Brody (Apalachin,
NY/Vestal) has been named the State University of New York
Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Volleyball Player of the
Week for the week ending Oct. 31.Brody had a .410 hitting percentage
and averaged 4.2 kills and 3.8 digs per game during a 3-1 week
for the Red Dragons. Brody started the week with 11 kills and
seven digs in a 3-0 win over Geneseo. She then led Cortland to
a 2-1 record and a second-place finish at the New York State Women's
Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) tournament in Cortland.
An all-tournament team selection, Brody had 16 kills, a .556 hitting
percentage, 12 digs and five blocks in a 3-0 quarterfinal win
versus Brockport, then posted 19 kills, 17 digs and three blocks
in a 3-1 victory over Ithaca in the semifinals. She added eight
kills and 13 digs in a loss to NYU in the championship match.Brody
leads the 34-2 Red Dragons this fall with 380 kills and 342 digs.
The Red Dragons will be the Eastern division top seed in the six-team
SUNYAC
tournament, hosted by Brockport on Nov. 5-6.

SUNY Brockport freshman outside hitter Shae Gilmore (Merrill,
NY/Northern Adirondack) has been named the State University of
New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Volleyball Player
of the Week for the week ending Oct. 24.Gilmore recorded 50 kills,
a .461 attack percentage, 39 digs and 10 blocks in four matches
for the Golden Eagles at the SUNYAC West divisional round
robin. Her best performance came in a 3-2 win over host Fredonia.
She finished the match with 24 kills and just three errors in
40 attempts for a .525 hitting percentage, and also registered
12 digs and two aces. Gilmore also totaled 14 kills in a 3-1 win
over Geneseo and 10 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 win over Buffalo
State. She leads Brockport this season in games played (95) and
attack percentage (.319). Brockport finished 4-0 on the weekend
and won the West division title with a 7-1 record. The Golden
Eagles will host the six-team SUNYAC tournament Nov. 5-6, with
the league champion receiving an automatic berth into the NCAA
Division III playoffs.

SUNY Fredonia senior middle hitter Heather Martin (Allegany,NY/Allegany-Limestone)
has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference
(SUNYAC) Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending
Oct. 17. Martin led the Blue Devils to a second-place finish with
a 3-1 record at the Oswego Invitational. In four matches, she registered
73 kills, a .380 attack percentage, 65 digs and 15 blocks. Martin
recorded "double-doubles" in kills and digs in all four
contests. She had 26 kills, 13 digs and three blocks in a 3-2 win
over Clarkson and 19 kills, 26 digs and seven blocks in a 3-2 loss
to RIT. She also had 15 kills, a .520 attack percentage and 11 digs
in a 3-0 win versus Hartwick and 13 kills, 15 digs and four blocks
in a 3-1 victory over St. Lawrence. Martin wins the weekly award for
the second time this season. She was also the SUNYAC Player of the
Week for the week ending Sept. 13.

SUNY Cortland senior middle hitter Siobhan Loughlin (Hauppauge)
has been named the SUNYAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the week
ending Oct. 10. Loughlin registered 19 kills with a .333 attack percentage
and 11 blocks in two matches over the weekend at the Cortland Invitational.
She had eight kills and seven blocks in a 3-0 win over Western Connecticut
State and followed that up with 11 kills in 17 attempts and no errors
for a .647 attack percentage and four blocks in a 3-0 win over Nazareth.
The win over Nazareth earned head coach Joan Sitterly her 800th career
win, becoming only the second coach in Division III history to reach
the milestone. Currently, Cortland is 22-1 on the season.

Plattsburgh State junior setter Melissa Luciano (Stony Point,
NY/North Rockland) has been chosen as the State University of New
York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Volleyball Player of the
Week for the week ending Oct. 3. Luciano registered 134 assists, 57
digs and 17 kills in a 3-2 showing by the Cardinals at the University
of Scranton Tournament. She finished with a
.341 hitting percentage and recorded double-figure digs in all five
matches. She also had seven blocks and three aces.

Oneonta junior right-side hitter Jill Meehan (Albany, NY/Guilderland)
has been chosen as the State University of New York Athletic Conference
(SUNYAC) Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending
Sept. 26. Meehan led the Red Dragons to a 4-1 record at the SUNYAC
Eastern Division Round Robin last weekend in Cortland. She registered
58 kills and only five errors in 135 attempts for a .393 hitting percentage.
She also had 14 aces, 34 digs and 11 blocks. In a 3-2 win over Plattsburgh,
Meehan had 18 kills and 12 digs. She also recorded 15 kills in a 3-1
win over New Paltz and 10 kills each in matches versus Cortland and
Potsdam. Oneonta is 11-7 overall and is currently in second place
in the SUNYAC East with its 4-1 mark. The Red Dragons will host the
second SUNYAC East Round Robin Oct. 22-23.

SUNY New Paltz junior outside hitter, Andrea Kaiser (Blue Point,
NY/Bayport-Blue Point) has been selected as the State University of
New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Volleyball Player of
the Week for the week ending Sept. 19. Kaiser averaged 3.9 kills and
3.7 digs per game and recorded a .330 attack percentage as the Hawks
posted a 4-0 record and a first place finish at their own invitational.
She had 15 kills and 21 digs in a 3-1 win over Elmira and 12 kills
and 10 digs in a 3-0 win versus Oneonta. She also finished with 10
kills and a .450 attack percentage in a 3-0 blanking of Mt. St. Mary
and had six kills and no errors for a .600 attack percentage in addition
to four blocks in two games of a 3-0 win versus Farmingdale. New Paltz
is off to a 7-2 start this fall, its best under third-year head coach
Matt Giufre.

SUNY Fredonia senior middle hitter Heather Martin (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone)
has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference
(SUNYAC) Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending
Sept. 12. Martin averaged 3.7 kills, 3.6 digs and 1.5 blocks per game
and had a .303 attack percentage as the Blue Devils finished in second
place with a 3-1 record at the Penn State Behrend Invitational. An
all-tournament team selection, Martin recorded 18 kills and seven
aces in a 3-1 win over Bethany and just missed a triple-double with
11 kills, 14 digs and nine blocks in a 3-0 win over Medaille. She
finished the tournament with 48 kills versus only eight attack errors
in four matches. Last season's SUNYAC Western Division Player of the
Year, Martin has led Fredonia to a 6-3 record this fall.

SUNY Cortland sophomore outside hitter Katie Brody (Apalachin, NY/Vestal)
has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference
(SUNYAC) women's volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending
Sept. 5. Brody led Cortland to a 5-0 record and a second straight
title at its own 10-team, season-opening Red Dragon Classic. The all-tournament
team selection averaged 3.8 kills and 3.8 digs per game and finished
the tournament with a .378 attack percentage. She had 14 kills and
10 digs in a 3-1 win over Nazareth that clinched the title for the
Red Dragons. She also
registered nine kills, 17 digs and a .471 attack percentage in a 3-0
win over New Paltz in the championship bracket and had 10 kills and
10 digs only two games during a 3-1 victory versus Geneseo. Cortland
is among the "also receiving votes" teams in the American
Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III preseason poll.
