FREDONIA, N.Y. – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the women's SUNYAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the period ending October 21, 2001. The honor goes to Katie Pietrzak (Rochester, N.Y/ Greece Arcadia High School), a sophomore middle hitter from Cortland. During a week of flawless play that saw the Red Dragons win all seven of their matches, Pietrzak's hitting percentage was .440, with only 2 errors in 75 attempts. In matches Tuesday and Thursday vs. RIT and St. John Fisher respectively, she contributed 13 kills, 2 aces, 27 digs and 3 total blocks. Competing in 12 games during SUNYAC pool play, she produced 22 kills, 3 aces, 43 digs and 8 total blocks. Cortland captured the SUNYAC East division with a perfect 10-0 record. The Red Dragons have 66 consecutive conference round robin match victories to their credit.

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the women's SUNYAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the period ending October 14, 2001. The honor goes to Liz Geist (Alden, N.Y./Alden High School), a sophomore middle from Fredonia State. Geist helped the Blue Devils sweep the weekend's competition as they captured first place in the Oswego State Invitational. Fredonia went 4-0, defeating Oneonta and Clarkson on Friday, then Geneseo and Union on Saturday. Geist hit .319, averaged 1.0 blocks per game and compiled 53 kills on her way to earning the tournament MVP title.

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the women's SUNYAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the period ending October 7, 2001. For the second consecutive week and the third time this season, the honor goes to Monica Polka (Youngstown, N.Y./Lewiston-Porter High School), a junior middle hitter for Buffalo State. In a week that began with the Bengals earning a 3-1 win at the University of Rochester on Tuesday and ended with advancement to the gold bracket of Oneonta's Invitational on Saturday afternoon, Polka helped lead her team to a 17-7 mark while setting three records of her own. She is now Buffalo State's all-time leader in kills (1,149), career aces (119) and aces in a season (74). Competing in 20 games, Polka accrued 122 kills, 4 assists, 13 aces, 36 digs and 32 total blocks. Her selection to the All-Tournament Team at Oneonta was her fourth such title this season.

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the women's SUNYAC Volleyball Player of the Week of the period ending September 30, 2001. Claiming the honor for the second time this season is Monica Polka (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter High School), a junior middle hitter for Buffalo State. In a 3-0 win over D'Youville, the Bengal's Polka posted 16 kills, two aces, four digs and six total blocks. Despite a 2-3 loss to St. John Fisher, Polka was credited with 44 kills, two aces, seven digs and 10 total blocks. Her hitting percentage was .31 against D'Youville and .50 vs. St. John Fisher. Polka's 44 kills is the sixth highest total in a match in NCAA Division III history.

September 24, 2001
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the women's SUNYAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the period ending September 23, 2001. Claiming the honor is Michelle LaPadula (Trumansburg, N.Y./Trumansburg High School) of Brockport. A senior outside hitter, LaPadula helped lead the Golden Eagles to last week's flawless 5-0 record, including a 3-1 win over Cortland in which she recorded 20 digs and six assists. Brockport leads the West Division of the conference after defeating all four opponents in last weekend's pool play. LaPadula recorded 41 kills, 13 assists, four service aces, 54 digs, seven blocks and .482 hitting percentage during the four SUNYAC matches.

September 17, 2001
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the women's SUNYAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the period ending September 16, 2001. Claiming the honor is Monica Polka (Youngstown, N.Y./Lewiston-Porter High School) of Buffalo State. A junior middle hitter, Polka has helped lead the Bengals to an 11-match winning streak, including 3-0 wins over all three opponents -- Keuka, Hilbert and Medaille -- in Saturday's Bengal Invitational. Buffalo State's record is now 11-1. Her 51 kills, 21 aces, 16 digs, 14 blocks and .280 hitting percentage in nine games of play earned Polka MVP honors for the Invitational, her second MVP title and third all-tournament selection in the past three weekends.

September 10, 2001
Winning the women's Player of the Week honor is Cortland's Kim Jentz (Gowanda, NY/Gowanda). A senior middle hitter, Jentz helped lead the Red Dragons to a 3-1 win over the University of Rochester and a 2-2 record at the Houghton Tournament. in the weekend tournament, Jentz accrued a career-high 12 blocks along with 13 ills in a 1-3 loss to Siena Heights (Mich.). In a 3-1 victory over Robert Wesleyan, the 6'2" co-captain achieved a career-high 14 kills, along with six blocks and three service aces. her tournament totals included 49 kills, four service aces and 32 total blocks. During the week's play, she averaged 3.00 kills and .632 blocks per game.
