BROCKPORT, NY: Cortland won its fifth SUNYAC Volleyball title in a row with a 15-9, 15-11, 16-14 victory over host SUNY Brockport on Saturday. The Red Dragons earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament, which starts Nov. 8. Cortland, which has appeared in 16 of the 17 SUNYAC Tournament championship matches and won 10 conference titles, was led by senior all-tournament selections Christine Widing (North Babylon) and Katrina Heath (Owego/Owego Free Academy). Widing had nine kills and nine digs and Heath had 17 digs in the championship match. Setter Jamie McMullen (Castile/Letchworth) had 25 assists and 14 digs. Brockport got 14 kills and 18 digs from senior Michelle LaPadula (Trumansburg) and 27 assists and 15 digs from senior Amanda Kitson (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley). In the semifinals, the Golden Eagles beat Oneonta, 3-1, and Cortland swept Fredonia, 3-0. Kitson had 38 assists and 11 digs and LaPadula had nine kills in the semifinals for Brockport. For Oneonta, freshman Lacey Musso (Wading River/Shoreham-Wading River) had 10 assists, 10 digs, seven kills, and two aces. Sophomore Julie Winnick (Galway) had 15 digs. Cortland got six kills and three blocks from sophomore Megan Thurkins (Painted Post/Corning West) in the win over Fredonia. Blue Devil senior Catherine Heinrich (Williamsville/Williamsville East) had six kills and eight digs against the Red Dragons. The all-tournament team included Widing and Heath of Cortland, Kitson and LaPadula of Brockport, Musso of Oneonta and Heinrich of Fredonia. BROCKPORT, NY: Oneonta battled Geneseo through five tough games and Fredonia cruised past Plattsburgh as the Red Dragons and Blue Devils advanced to Saturdays semifinals at the 17th Annual SUNYAC Volleyball Championships at host Brockport on Friday night. The Golden Eagles, winners of the SUNYAC Western Division title, will take on Oneonta at 11 a.m. in the first semifinal, while SUNYAC Eastern Division champ Cortland will face Fredonia in the 1:30 p.m. semi. The championship match, with an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III tournament on the line, will be at 4 p.m. In the first match of the tournament on Friday, junior Jayme Stewart (Ballston Spa) had 10 kills and nine digs and freshman setter Lacey Musso (Wading River/Shoreham-Wading River) had 18 assists for Oneonta in a 15-8, 6-15, 15-11, 12-15, 15-13 win over Geneseo. Sophomore Julie Winnick (Galway) had nine kills and 17 digs. Geneseo was led by sophomore Korri Jones (George/Lake George), who had 13 kills and 21 digs. Sophomore Amanda McKenzie (Pavilion) chipped in with 45 assists and 20 digs. Junior Sarah Muccigrosso (Macedon/Gananda) had 36 assists, four aces, and six digs as Fredonia toppled Plattsburgh, 15-2, 15-9, 15-10. Senior Catherine Heinrich (Williamsville/Williamsville East) had seven kills and 12 digs for the Blue Devils. Freshman setter Theresa Faden (Glens Falls/South Glens Falls) had 12 assists and five digs for Plattsburgh. Dr.
