Cortland finished in second place in the SUNYAC last season with a 16-3 record. The Red Dragons turned it up in the post-season winning the SUNYAC Tournament and advancing to the NCAA Division III College World Series in Salem, VA. They ended the season tied for 5th in the nation with a 42-8-1 record. Buffalo State was selected second in the poll with 83 points. Last season, the Bengals finished fifth with a 14-6 conference mark and a 26-15 overall record. Oneonta was picked third after finishing sixth in the league standings in 2003 and advancing to the final round of the SUNYAC Tournament. Geneseo was picked fourth in the poll with 76 points after winning the ECAC Upstate Tournament and finishing as the SUNYAC regular-season champion in 2003.
The 2004 softball
season gets started this weekend as Geneseo and Cortland both play a pair
of games on Sunday to kick off their 10-game Florida trips. The Knights take
on Transylvania and Wittenberg in Fort Myers on Sunday morning while The Red
Dragons face Simpson (IA) and Coast Guard in Osceola Sunday afternoon.
