CORTLAND CLAIMS SUNYAC SOFTBALL TITLE

GENESEO, NY – Senior Julie Gentner (Williamsville/Williamsville South) hit a game winning walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the eighth to give Cortland a 3-2 win over Oneonta in the second game of the championship round of the 2003 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Softball tournament.

Oneonta advanced to the championship round after knocking off top-seeded Geneseo 4-3 and forced a tiebreaker game after defeating Cortland 5-4 in the opener.  Oneonta entered the tournament as the sixth seed and held off elimination four times before losing today.

In the finale, Cortland led 1-0 after three, but Oneonta took a 2-1 lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth.  Cortland later tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on an unearned run.
