ATHLETES PREPARE FOR SUNYAC
OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

FREDONIA, NY – The 2003 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, NY, hosted by SUNY New Paltz.

Teams from Brockport, Buffalo State, Cortland, Fredonia, Geneseo, New Paltz, Oneonta, Oswego and Plattsburgh will compete in this year’s 36th annual men’s and 20th annual women’s competitions.

The Cortland Red Dragons look to defend their men’s and women’s titles despite returning only two individual winners from last year.  On the men’s side, Cortland narrowly outdistanced Geneseo in last year’s championship to claim their second consecutive title.

The Cortland women continued to dominate as they took home the championship for the fifth consecutive year.  This year, however, they will be without double individual winners Kissie Pringle, Sarah Speicher and Jennifer White, all lost to graduation.  Looking to upset Cortland are the Lady Knights of Geneseo who are coming off a strong indoor season that included a seventh-place team finish at nationals.

The all-day event starts at 9 a.m. with the men’s and women’s hammer throw and concludes at approximately 3:40 p.m. with the men’s 4x400m relay.  For more information and up-to-date performance lists, go to the SUNYAC web page at www.sunyac.com and click on Outdoor Track.
