Cortland Win's SUNYAC Men's Soccer Championship
The Red Dragons Receive Automatic Bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Cortland Red Dragons have won their first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title since 1993 after defeating SUNY Fredonia 3-0 in the Championship finals Saturday afternoon.

Cortland's Jesse Mankowski (Clarence/Clarence) scored the games first goal 9:38 into the game off an assist by Jeff Bauda (West Seneca/Orchard Park). The score remained 1-0 until the second half when Samir Sisic (Cazin, Bosnia/Ibrahim Perviz) scored an unassisted goal at 55:43. Todd Conklin (Lockport/Starpoint) scored the third goal at 70:21 off Bauda's second assist of the game.

This year's conference tournament marked the first time an All-Tournament team was selected. Craig Bednarczyk (Schenectady/Colony) was named the MVP of the tournament.

After winning today's SUNYAC Championship, Cortland receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Red Dragons are currently 13-6-/

Cortland and Fredonia Advance to the SUNYAC Finals
SUNYAC Championship game – 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 3 at Hartwick College

Oneonta, N.Y. – The Cortland Red Dragons and Fredonia Blue Devils will advance to the State University of New York Athletic finals tomorrow, Saturday, November 4 at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. The game will begin at 1 p.m.

In the first semi-final game, fourth seeded Cortland upset number one seed Plattsburgh 2-0. Jesse Mankowski (Clarence/Clarence) scored the tournament's first goal less than five minutes into the game (4:45) with an assist by Mike Pelligrinelli (Hopewell Junction/John Jay). Cortland scored their second goal on a header by Kevin Russell (Delmar/Bethlehem) off an assist from Mankowski in the second half (62:39).

Second seeded Fredonia defeated Geneseo in overtime 2-1, to advance to the finals against Cortland. Geneseo's Seth Art (New Hyde Park/Herricks) scored the games first goal with an assist by Mike Fox (Mt. Sinai/Mt. Sinai) at 32:34. Less than five minutes later (37:21), Fredonia came back to tie the game when Mitch Irish (Fairport/Fairport) made a penalty kick. Neither team scored again during regulation. In overtime (94:45), Chris Whitmore (Lockport/Lockport) scored the game-winning goal off an assist by Blair Engel (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius).

The winner of tomorrow's SUNYAC Championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
