Ian Mort, Geneseo Sophomore Forward (Rochester/McQuaid)
Mort, the 2008 SUNYAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Year, scored his first two goals of the season, including the game-winner just 52 seconds into the extra period, as #3 Geneseo defeated #6 Oswego in the SUNYAC tournament first round.
October 26
Jamey Crumb, Brockport Senior Forward (McGraw/McGraw)
Crumb led the Golden Eagles to the #2 seed and a first round bye in the upcoming SUNYAC tournament. On Friday, the senior forward netted the game winner with less than 3 minutes to go in regulation to beat Fredonia 1-0. On Saturday, Crumb was a big part of the winning goal again, this time feeding the ball to Brad Lefort to earn the 2-1 victory over the Bengals. It was Crumb's first assist of the season.
October 19
Steve Abgarian, Brockport Senior Forward (Merrick/Bellmore-JFK)
Abgarian scored the overtime winner on Friday night against Oswego for his 10th score of the season. The senior forward came back on Saturday and assisted on Brockport's first goal against Cortland. Abagarian has led the Golden Eagles to a 5-1 record in their last 6 games.
October 12
Erik Shum, Cortland Sophomore Goalie (Carmel/Kennedy)
Making just his second and third starts of the season, Shum recorded shutouts in both of Cortland's road games over the weekend. He made 10 saves in 110 minutes in a 0-0 tie Friday night at Fredonia, followed by seven saves the next afternoon in a 1-0 win at Buffalo State.
October 5
Felipe Cavalcanti, Oswego Junior Forward (Valatie/Ichabod Crane)
Cavalcanti played a pivotal role in helping the Lakers go 2-0 in SUNYAC play with a 2-1 (2 OT) win at Plattsburgh and a 2-1 (OT) win at Potsdam. Against the Cardinals, he tallied both Oswego goals, including the unassisted game-winner in the 108th minute. Cavalcanti recorded his second overtime goal of the weekend against Potsdam in the 97th minute. The Lakers are 2-1 in conference play.
September 28
Evan Jedynak, Oneonta, Sophomore Midfielder (Malta/Ballston Spa)
Jedynak had both game-winning goals this weekend in two conference wins (Fredonia and Buffalo State) on the road. Jedynak leads the team with eight goals and 19 points. Oneonta is currently 3-0 in the SUNYAC.
September 21
Chris Taylor, Plattsburgh Junior Forward (Liverpool/Cardinal Heenan)
Taylor figured prominently in two non-conference wins this week, scoring a team-leading eight points to become Plattsburgh's leader for the season. Credited with a game-winning goal from 25 yards out at Castleton, and assisted on the insurance tally. He drilled a 35-yard shot for his second goal of the Skidmore game for the game winner in the 69th minute, capping a 3-2 comeback in which Plattsburgh trailed 2-0 after 10 minutes. Taylor now leads the team with six assists and 12 points.
September 14
Anis Makaren, Plattsburgh Junior Forward (Lecheria, Venezuela/SUNY-Delhi)
Makaren helped Plattsburgh to a pair of road wins against regional
opponents. Both of his goals put Plattsburgh in the lead, including
a game-winner over Clarkson. The newcomer leads the Cardinals
in scoring with five goals.
September 8
Steve Abgarian, Brockport Senior Midfield (Merrick/Bellmore-JFK)
Abgarian tied two school records in a 7-0 victory over Cazenovia College as he scored five goals and finished with 10 points. Abgarian netted the insurance goal in the 2-0 win over Nazareth and scored late in the second half in a 1-1 tie with RIT. He has scored seven goals in three games to lead the Golden Eagles to a 2-0-1 record to start the 2009 season.
