PLATTSBURGH EDGES FREDONIA FOR TOP SPOT IN COACHES POLL
FREDONIA, N.Y. – The SUNYAC coaches have picked the Plattsburgh Cardinals to win the 2006 SUNYAC men’s soccer title. Receiving 5 first place votes, and 90 of 100 total points, Plattsburgh will seek to defend their 2005 SUNYAC championship. The Cardinals are ranked in 2 Division III Pre-season polls; 11th in the d3kicks.com poll and 4th in the NSCAA Coaches Poll. Plattsburgh ended their 2005 season with a 22-2 overall record, falling to Messiah in the NCAA Final Four.
Receiving 4 first place votes, and 85 points, the Fredonia Blue Devils were picked 2nd by the coaches. Last season, Fredonia went to the NCAA Elite 8, where they fell to Gustavus Adolphus, and posted a 17-4-4 overall record. The Blue Devils have 6 seniors on their roster, and also make appearances on the d3kicks.com pre-season poll at 21st and the NSCAA Coaches Poll at 15th.
The Brockport Golden Eagles round out the top 3, after getting 82 votes from the coaches. Brockport finished their 2005 SUNYAC season in 2nd place, and went on to the NCAA tournament, where they fell to Plattsburgh in the second round. Brockport adds 11 freshmen to a team led by 5 seniors.
Conference play will begin on Friday, September 15th.
