Gary LaPietra named SUNYAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year

FREDONIA, NY - Brockport's Gary LaPietra was named Men's Soccer Coach of the Year at the annual coaches' meeting in Syracuse yesterday.

The award is voted on by the conference coaches and given out annually at the conclusion of the SUNYAC Soccer Championships.

LaPietra, in his seventh season at Brockport, coached the Golden Eagles to a school-best regular season record of 15-3, breaking the previous record of 14-4-1 set in 1976 for most wins in a season. Under his leadership, the Golden Eagles were perfect in conference play (9-0) and were ranked as high as sixteenth in the nation. The team finished the regular season ranked #24 in the nation and is sixth in the latest NSCAA/adidas regional ranking poll. His squad lost to Cortland in the SUNYAC championship game, but continues their post-season play Saturday in the first round of the ECAC Division III Men's Northeast Championship against Plattsburgh at the University of Rochester.
