Cortland Wins 2002 SUNYAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship

The Red Dragons defeat Oneonta 14-5 to win the SUNYAC title

FREDONIA, NY – The Cortland Red Dragons have won the first annual State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men’s Lacrosse Tournament, and their third consecutive championship since the conference sport was reinstated in 2000. 

             Previously, the SUNYAC champion was determined by regular season conference play.  After winning the conference championship today, Cortland receives the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. 

            Top seeded Cortland defeated second-seeded Oneonta 14-5 to claim the 2002 SUNYAC Title. In the semifinals on Wednesday, Cortland defeated fourth-seeded Geneseo 13-0 to advance to the finals against Oneonta.  Oneonta defeated third-seeded Oswego 22-12 on Wednesday.             

            Cortland finished the regular season 7-0 in the conference and is currently 15-2 overall. Oneonta finished conference play 5-2 and is 12-4 overall.
