2001-2002 Player's of the Week
February 18, 2002 The State University of New York Athletic Conference has announced the men's SUNYAC Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on February 17. Michael O'Steen (Buffalo/Seneca) earned the men's honor for the second week in a row. O'Steen, a junior guard, averaged 26.0 points as Oswego split a pair of games this past week. After scoring 16 points in a road loss to Fredonia on Friday, he torched Buffalo State on its home court for 36 points, including shooting 14-of-14 from the free throw line. February 11, 2002 The State University of New York Athletic Conference has announced the men's SUNYAC Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on February 10. Oswego's Michael O'Steen (Buffalo/Seneca) earned the men's honor. O'Steen, a junior guard, led Oswego to a 2-1 record, while averaging 27.3 points-per-game, 53 percent from the field. He scored 30-plus points twice, including a 31-point performance in an 85-58 win over Plattsburgh on Tuesday. February 4, 2002 The State University of New York Athletic Conference has announced the men's SUNYAC Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on February 3. Kazy Payne (Bronx/Paul Smith's CC) earned the men's honor. Payne, a junior guard, averaged 23.3 points and 4.6 rebounds-per-game, while shooting 45 percent from the field. He scored 54 points in consecutive wins over Cortland and Fredonia, and broke Utica/Rome's school record for three-pointers with a total of 87 for the season. He currently ranks third in Division III in three-pointers made per-game, averaging 4.4. Januarty 28, 2002 The State University of New York Athletic Conference has announced the men's SUNYAC Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on January 27. Plattsburgh's Jordan Ostrander (Burlington, VT/Missisquoi Valley) earned the men's honor. Ostrander, a senior forward, averaged 27.3 points and 6.3 rebounds-per-game, while shooting 65 percent from the field and an astounding 83 percent from behind the three-point arc. He posted a career-high 32 points in a 88-75 win over Johnson State on Tuesday, and scored 29 points in a loss at Buffalo State on Saturday. January 21, 2002 The State University of New York Athletic Conference has announced the men's SUNYAC Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on January 20. Pat Stirk (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law) of New Paltz earned the men's honor. Stirk, a senior forward, averaged 22.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game, while shooting 62 percent from the field. He was especially dominant on Saturday, recording 37 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks in New Paltz's first SUNYAC win, a 73-65 victory over Fredonia. January 14, 2002 The State University of New York Athletic Conference has announced the men's SUNYAC Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on January 13. Dave Ponza (Solvay, NY/Solvay) of Oswego earned the men's honor. Ponza, a freshman forward, averaged 19.6 points and 8.6 rebounds-per-game as the Lakers went 2-1 in SUNYAC play last week. In back-to-back wins over New Paltz and Cortland, Ponza posted 25 and 26 points respectively, while grabbing eight rebounds in each game. He also recorded six blocks in a 72-70 loss to Fredonia on Tuesday. December 10, 2001 The State University of New York Athletic Conference has announced the men's SUNYAC Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on December 9. Pat Adams (Brooklyn/Boys and Girls) of Buffalo State earned the men's honor. Adams, a senior center, averaged 14.0 points, 13.7 rebounds and 4.7 blocks-per-game, as Buffalo State opened 2-1 in SUNYAC play. Adams shot 66.7 percent from the field for the week, and averaged a double-double. He posted career highs with 22 rebounds and eight blocks to go along with 16 points in a win over Utica/Rome on Saturday. He also recorded eight steals during the three-game stretch. Dr.
