CORTLAND PICKED TO PLACE FIRST IN SUNYAC MEN'S BASKETBALL The Red Dragons look to defend their championship FREDONIA, NY---The Cortland State Red Dragons are again favored to finish first this season in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) according to the Men's Basketball pre-season coaches poll. Cortland had nine first-place votes, and Brockport and Oneonta one first-place vote each. Cortland State won the conference last season, edging out Brockport. Both teams finished the conference with a record of 17-3. Cortland defeated Brockport in the SUNYAC finals 70-55. Brockport hopes to continue their much improved 1999-00 season. Voted to finish only ninth in the 1999 pre-season poll, the Golden Eagles prevailed finishing second in SUNYAC, making it to the SUNYAC championship finals, and earning a first seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship. Potsdam has been picked to finish third after receiving 90 votes. The Bears finished the 1999-00 season with a record of 13-7. Potsdam lost in the SUNYAC quater-finals to Oswego 70-68.
