SUNYAC Announces Men's All-Conference Basketball Teams

Cortland's Williams and Utica/Rome's Mensah receive individual honors

FREDONIA, NY – The Commissioner of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), Patrick R. Damore, has announced the All-SUNYAC Men's Basketball Teams as well as the conference's Player of the Year and First Year Player of the Year for the 2000-01 season.

Winning the SUNYAC Player of the Year honor for the second consecutive year was Cortland's Tom Williams (East Northport, NY/Commack). The senior guard finished the regular season with 456 points, averaging 19.0 points per-game. Williams also grabbed 6.8 rebounds and 2.4 steals per-game. The two-time SUNYAC Player of the Week honoree also sank 77 of his 106 free throw attempts (72.6%).

Will Mensah (Queens, NY), a 6'2” junior guard from Utica/Rome, received the First Year Player of the Year honor after finishing the 2000-01 regular season second in SUNYAC scoring with 484 points (20.2 ppg). The explosive offensive player for the Wildcats also dished out 92 assists (3.8 apg) and averaged 5.2 rebounds per-game. Mensah who also received SUNYAC Player of the Week honors earlier this season was selected as a Second Team All-SUNYAC performer.
