Cortland Claims #1 seed in Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament

 

             FREDONIA, NY – The quarterfinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Basketball tournament are set to begin Tuesday Feb. 21 and will be played on the campuses of the higher seed. Cortland's men's and women's team each earned the number one seed in the tournament. The Cortland women ended the conference regular season with a record of 15-1 and will play host to number eight seed New Paltz. The Red Dragons defeated the Hawks twice in conference play by scores of 56-42 and 65-53. Number two seeded Oswego will host Buffalo State. The Lakers won both games against the Bengals in the regular season. Number three seeded Oneonta will take on Brockport, while Geneseo will face Fredonia.
Cortland's men's team finished with a record of 14-2 in the SUNYAC and will host the eighth seeded Buffalo State Bengals. The Red Dragons faced the Bengals once in the regular season and came away with a narrow 75-73 victory. Number two seeded Oswego will host Geneseo. The Lakers defeated the Knights 67-60 in the regular season on Dec. 2. Sixth seeded Plattsburgh will travel to Brockport and fifth seeded Potsdam will travel to SUNYIT. The Cardinals went 0-2 against the Golden Eagles in the regular season, as the Bears and Wildcats went 1-1 against each other.
The winners of Tuesday’s games will advance to Friday’s semifinal games at the Utica Memorial Auditorium in Utica, NY. The men's games will take place at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., with the women starting at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The finals will be Saturday Feb. 25 with the men's game tipping off at 1 p.m. and the women at 4:00 p.m.
