SUNYAC ANNOUNCES MEN'S BASKETBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS

 

FREDONIA, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its 2004 Men's Basketball All-Conference teams, Player of the Year, and First Year Players of the Year tonight at the annual SUNYAC Basketball Championship dinner at the Holiday Inn in Utica, NY. Brockport's Charlie Croff (Lockport/Lockport) has been selected as the 2004 SUNYAC Player of the Year and Oswego freshman guard Nicholas Perioli (Liverpool/Liverpool) and Plattsburgh junior transfer Curtis Smith (Brooklyn/Jefferson CC) share First Year Player of the Year honors.

Croff had a tremendous season for the Golden Eagles, who finished the regular season 15-1 in the conference and enter the SUNYAC Tournament as the top seed. The 6-5 forwards among the league leaders in virtually every statistical category, including scoring, rebounding, field-goal percentage, free-throw percentage, and three-point percentage. He averaged 18.3 points per game and 10 rebounds per contest during the regular season and was twice named SUNYAC Player of the Week and once named Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate Player of the Week.

Perioli averaged 38 minutes per game as a freshman for an Oswego State squad that finished the year 11-5 in SUNYAC play and 18-8 overall. Perioli is second in the league in assists to turnover ratio and is in the top-10 in the conference in steals, three-point field goals made, and free-throw percentage. Smith shot 55 percent from the field as a guard for the 14-12 Cardinals this season and is among the conference leaders in both steals and assists. For two straight weeksearlier season, the Jefferson Community College transfer led the entire nation in steals, averaging over four per game.
