Announces Award Winners in Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field
LoPiccolo
and Prevosti Named Coaches of the Year
Brockport
senior thrower Jen Heim (North
Tonawanda/Starpoint) has been selected as the
SUNYAC Outstanding Female Field Athlete. Heim led the Golden Eagles to a fourth
place finish at the conference championships. She won the shot put with a toss
of 12.01 meters and threw an NCAA provisional throw of 15.45 meters in the 20
lb. weight throw.
Oneonta’s
Musu Jackson-Buckner (Buffalo/Buffalo Seminary)
and Ashlee Robertson (Mechanicville/Shenendehowa) have been named the Co-Outstanding Female
Track Athletes. Jackson-Buckner claimed three individual titles and was part of
the victorious 1600 meter relay. She defended her titles in the 55 and 200
meter dashes, with times of 7.32 (NCAA provisional) and 25.29 seconds,
respectively. Her mark of 11.51 meters hit the NCAA provisional mark and
secured her the top finish in the tripled jump. Roberston
took home the crown in the 400 meters for the third straight year, breaking her
own meet record in 58:08 (NCAA provisional). She placed second in the 200 meter
behind Jackson-Buckner, and grabbed a third place finish in the 55 meter dash. Roberston and Jackson-Buckner were both part of the winning
1600 meter relay with a time of 4:05.26.
Geneseo
senior Matt Kuenzel
(Saratoga/Saratoga Springs) has been named the Outstanding Male Field Athlete.
Kuenzel helped lead the Knights to their second
consecutive team victory by placing first in the shot put and grabbing second
in the 35 lb. weight throw. He won the shot put with an NCAA provisional toss
of 16.59 meters, and threw the weight 16.20 meters.
Geneseo’s
Dave Prevosti
and Oneonta’s Matt LoPiccolo
were selected as the SUNYAC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Coaches of
the Year. Prevosti, in his second season as head
coach, led the Knights to their second straight SUNYAC title. The Knights won
three individual crowns and two relay events en route to their victory. LoPiccolo, in his sixth season as head coach of the Red Dragons, earns his first
Female coach of the year award. He led the Red Dragons to their highest finish
ever at the SUNYAC Championships with 141 points for second place. Oneonta
captured five individual titles and one relay crown.
