2006 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship Qualifiers

Cortland’s Gentile and Plattsburgh’s DeShane seeded first in their event

 

FREDONIA, NY - St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota is hosting the 2006 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 10-11. The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has fifteen female and nine male athletes who qualified to participate in the championship. Brockport will be represented by Jen Heim (Tonawanda/Starpoint) and Josh Dupuis (Tupper Lake). Heim qualified in the weight throw with a toss of 15.75 meters. Dupuis will participate in the shot put event as the eleventh seed (16.44 meters).

Andria Gentile (Middletown/Minisink Valley) is the lone female representative for Cortland with the fastest qualifying time in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.18 seconds.  The Red Dragons will be sending four males to the championships, led by senior Fred Joslyn (Chenango Forks) with the second fastest seed time in the 5000 meters (14:31.97). Andy Cloke (Corning/Notre Dame) will participate in the one mile event (4:13.22), Amaan Siddeeq (New Hampton/Goshen) will race in the 55 meter dash (6.39), and Tynez Wilson (Endicott/Union-Endicott) has qualified in the triple jump with a leap of 14.41 meters.

Geneseo’s women’s Distance Medley Relay team of Christy Finke (Fairport), Emily Howland (Fairport), Fran Magri (Rochester/Irondequoit) and Marta Scott (South Wales/East Aurora) qualified to compete with a seed time of 12:00.98. Scott will individually compete in the one mile with a qualifying time of 4:58.79. Junior Shannon Griggs (Hilton) and first year Christianna Martin (Dunkirk/Fredonia) will participate in the 5,000 meters with Griggs posting a seed time of 17:23.04 and Martin posting a 17:26.58. Representing the Geneseo women in the field events will be Mary Kosloski (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) who qualified in the high jump (1.68m) and the triple jump (11.57m). On the men’s side, Ross Hunkovic (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) and Matthew Kuenzel (Saratoga/Saratoga Springs) will take part in the one mile (4:12.96) and the shot put (16.59m), respectively.

Oneonta will be sending five women to the championship meet. Senior Musu Jackson-Buckner (Buffalo/Buffalo Seminary) and sophomore Kaitlin O’Sullivan (Syracuse/Westhill) have each qualified in two individual events. Jackson-Buckner will be competing in the 55 meter dash (7.19) and the triple jump (11.54m). O’Sullivan is seeded 11th in both the 800 meter (2:14.13) and the one mile (5:02.16) events. Ashlee Robertson (Mechanicville/Shenendehowa) is seeded fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.22. Robertson and Jackson-Buckner will also take part in the 4x400 meter relay joined by Maureen Verdier (Baldwin) and Mary Velan (Stamford). The relay team posted the fifth fastest entry time for the meet with a time of 3:54.76.

Oswego State’s Shomari Felder (Syracuse/Fowler) is the lone representative for the Lakers. Felder will be participating in the high jump after posting a qualifying height of 2.03 meters.

 Plattsburgh’s Toni Wiszowaty (Shirley/William Floyd) will compete against Geneseo’s Griggs and Martin in the 5000 meter event. Wiszowaty qualified with a time of 17:20.36. Matt DeShane (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) is seeded first in the one mile event with the fastest Division III qualifying time of 4:06.82.
