ATHLETES PREPARE FOR SUNYAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Buffalo State
to host this year’s championships in Geneva

FREDONIA, NY – The 2003 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track Championships will be held Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Bristol Field House on the campuses of Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.

Teams from Brockport, Buffalo State, Cortland, Fredonia, Geneseo, New Paltz, Oneonta, Oswego and Plattsburgh will compete in this year’s 23rd annual men’s and 20th annual women’s competitions

The Geneseo Knights look to defend their men’s title and win their third consecutive SUNYAC championship.  They will have to do it, however, without All-American Tony Gallo, lost to graduation.  Gallo won three individual events and was part of a winning relay last year for the Knights.  The Cortland Red Dragons finished in second place last year, just five points behind Geneseo, and will be looking to break the Knights streak.

On the women’s side, Cortland took home the championship for the sixth consecutive year.  The Red Dragons finished with 219 points after winning 10 events in last year’s championship.  Geneseo finished in second with 107 points, just 12 points ahead of third-place finisher, Oswego.

The all-day event starts at 9 a.m. with the women’s weight throw and concludes at approximately 4:30 p.m. with the men’s 3200m relay.  For more information, go to the SUNYAC web page at www.sunyac.com and click on Indoor Track.  For up-to-date performance lists, visit www.oswego.edu/~athletic/Mtrack/sunyacrankings.html.
