Plattsburgh Wins SUNYAC Ice Hockey Championship

Cardinals win fifth straight SUNYAC title

FREDONIA, NY – Plattsburgh has captured their fifth consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Ice Hockey Championship. The Cardinals defeated Potsdam two games to one to win the SUNYAC crown and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Cardinals defeated Potsdam on Friday by a score of 6-3 but Potsdam battled back the next night to defeat Plattsburgh 6-2. In the tie-breaking game Sunday afternoon, Plattsburgh came out on top winning 5-1.

Plattsburgh finished the regular season with a 13-1-0 record in the conference with their only loss dealt to them by Potsdam early in the season. First seed Plattsburgh received a bye in the play-in round of the tournament and defeated fifth seed Geneseo in the semifinals two games to none. Third seed Potsdam ended the SUNYAC season with an 8-3-3 record. They earned their shot at the SUNYAC title by defeating sixth seed Cortland in the play-in round and second seed Oswego in the semifinal round.
