GENESEO AND PLATTSBURGH ADVANCE TO SUNYAC ICE HOCKEY FINALS

 

 

The motto for the in the SUNYAC Ice Hockey Tournament semifinals is “second consecutive year.” For the second consecutive year, Geneseo and Plattsburgh will face off in the SUNYAC Championship series.

In a repeat of last year, the fourth seeded Plattsburgh Cardinals knocked the top-seeded Oswego Lakers out of the SUNYAC playoffs. In game one of the series, Plattsburgh was down 3-1 before scoring five goals in the third period to seal game one 6-3. In the second game, the Cardinals skated to a 5-2 victory over the Lakers, advancing to the SUNYAC finals next weekend with an 18-10-1 record.

For the second straight season the Fredonia Blue Devils had their season end on Geneseo ice in the semifinal round. In game one of the series the Ice Knights held on for a 4-3 victory. In game two, Fredonia forced a decisive mini-game with a dominating 5-2 regulation win.  But it was Geneseo who found the back of the net in the mini-game to claim a 1-0 win, to advance to the finals.

Plattsburgh and Geneseo will face off on Friday and Saturday March 3rd and 4th in Geneseo at the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena at 7 p.m. In the first to three point series, a third game will be played on Sunday, March 5 at 2 p.m., if necessary.
