SUNYAC ANNOUNCES ALL-CONFERNECE TEAM

Will Hamele of Fredonia named Player of the Year

 

FREDONIA, NYThe State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its 2002-03 All-Conference Ice Hockey teams, as well as Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year honors. 

            Fredonia’s Will Hamele (Dearborn, Mich.) is this year’s SUNYAC Player of the Year.  Hamele, a senior goaltender, helped lead the Blue Devils to a 10-4 conference record which earned them a second-place seed in this year’s tournament.  He ranks third among conference goaltenders with a 1.77 goals-against-average and a .924 save percentage. 

            Kris Heeres (Abbotsford, BC) of Geneseo and Oswego’s Jocelyn Dubord (LaChenaie, QUE) were selected as Co-Rookies of the Year.  Both players rank tenth among the league’s scoring leaders with 15 points.  Heeres, a forward, had nine goals and six assists during the regular season for the Knights.  Dubord, also a forward, scored six goals and added nine assists in his freshman campaign for the Lakers. 

            Oswego’s George Roll was selected as this year’s SUNYAC Coach of the Year.  Roll directed the Lakers to a first-place finish in the regular season and a No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament.
