Plattsburgh Chosen to Win SUNYAC Ice Hockey Championship

The defending SUNYAC champions go after their seventh straight conference title

FREDONIA, NY – It’s déjà vu for the Plattsburgh men’s ice hockey team.  The coaches have again chosen the Cardinals to win the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men’s Ice Hockey title.

Under the direction of Head Coach Bob Emery, the Cardinals finished the 2001-02 regular season with a 13-1-0 conference record, as they went on to capture their sixth consecutive SUNYAC Ice Hockey Championship.  Plattsburgh sought to defend their 2001 NCAA Division III title, but lost in the semifinal round to the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

And for the second straight year, Oswego finished second in this year’s poll with 43 points.  The Lakers finished last year’s regular season in second place behind Plattsburgh with a 10-3-1 SUNYAC record.  Geneseo edged out Potsdam for third place in this year’s pre-season poll after finishing last season tied for third in the conference with Cortland with a 7-5-2 SUNYAC record.

Rounding out the top six are Potsdam, Cortland and Fredonia.
