2000 Women's Team Results
Cross Country Championships Saturday, October 21, 2000 at SUNY Oswego The 2000 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, October 21 on the campus of SUNY Oswego. The Men's Championship race will begin at 11 am, and the Women's Championship race at 12 noon. The Cortland men's team has won three SUNYAC Cross Country titles in four years including their second straight last year. The Red Dragons placed four runners in the top five including first place runner Mike Heitzenrater with a time of 25:49. Plattsburgh came in with 38 points including second place finisher Corey Davidson. This year's title will be "up for grabs" with none of the top seven runners returning. Cortland placed five runners in the top seven and Plattsburgh the other two. The two schools have dominated the Championship since 1994. New Paltz's Phil Goodwin will be the top returner. He finished eighth in 1999. Plattsburgh won their first SUNYAC Women's Cross Country Championship 1999 and put an end to Cortland's winning streak of fifteen straight SUNYAC titles. Cortland and Geneseo tied for second place in the team results, only one point behind Plattsburgh, marking the closest finish in the 17 year history of the women's race. The Cardinals placed four runners in the top 10. Kelly Duffy finished second last year and will be returning to try and better her standings. Cortland lost last year's first place finisher from 1999, Cheryl Smith (18:06), but returns with two of their top ten finishers Elizabeth Ackley and Erin Dinan. Geneseo will enter into the 2000 race with last year's third place finisher Jen Rettke as well as three other top 15 finishers Dr.
