CORTLAND MEN AND GENESEO WOMEN CLAIM SUNYAC TITLES
Matt Moran and Nolan Swanson named Coach of the Year

 

                                    FREDONIA, NY. – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) held the Cross Country Championships this past weekend at Beaver Island State Park, in Grand Island NY.  The Cortland men claimed the 2006 title, while the Geneseo women captured their 7th consecutive SUNYAC championship. The Cortland men recorded 29 points to defeat the defending champion Geneseo Blue Knights by 11 points. 

                                    The Red Dragons had 5 finishers in the top 8, led by freshman Jerry Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) who finished 3rd.  Capturing the individual crown was Plattsburgh’s Matt DeShane (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) for the second straight year.  Geneseo recorded 40 points, followed by Brockport with 92, Oswego with 130, and Plattsburgh finished 5th with 141.  Rounding out the rest of the field was Fredonia (149), Oneonta (165), Buffalo State (254), SUNYIT (279), New Paltz (293), and Potsdam (328).

                                    The Geneseo women captured their 7th consecutive SUNYAC title with 31 points and 10 finishers in the top 15.  Geneseo’s Liz Montgomery (Glenville/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) placed second overall to top the Geneseo women.  Plattsburgh’s Toni Wiszowaty (Shirley/Willaim Floyd) captured the individual crown, finishing over a minute before Montgomery crossed the finish line.  Fredonia finished 2nd with 81 points, followed by Plattsburgh with 89, Cortland with 91, and Brockport with 113.  Rounding out the rest of the field was Oneonta (171), Buffalo State (181), New Paltz (206), Oswego (299), and Potsdam (INC).

                                    Cortland’s Matt Moran was voted the SUNYAC men’s Coach of the Year in his second season.  Fredonia’s Nolan Swanson was named the women’s Coach of the Year, after his team finished 2nd overall.
