Geneseo Wins 2002 SUNYAC Women’s Cross Country Championship
Geneseo women make it three in a row

 

FREDONIA, NY - The Lady Knights dominated the field at this year’s State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Cross Country Championship held Saturday at Lake Erie State Park. 

            Geneseo placed all five scoring runners in the top eight to finish with 22 points.  They were led by Melissa White, two-time SUNYAC champion, and second place finisher Jen Rettke.  Rounding out the scoring for Geneseo was Joanna Zieno, Kris Reale and Kelly Owens, who finished fourth, seventh and eight, respectively. 

            Cortland finished second in team scoring with 47 points, placing five runners in the top 15.  The Red Dragons were led by third-place finisher, Liz Ackley and sixth-place finisher, Betsy Schultz.  Oswego finished third in the standings with 102 points behind fifth-place finisher, Susan McWilliams. 

            Coach of the Year honors went to Geneseo’s Mike Woods.  He also won the award in 2000.
