PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Joe Curcio (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville), Plattsburgh senior
Curcio hit .364 for the Cardinals while slugging .909 during
a 3-2 week. His highlight for the week was hitting a walk-off
home run to beat nationally ranked Cortland 9-8 in the second
game of doubleheader this past Saturday. He also delivered the
game-tying single in a 6-5 win against Oswego the next day, which
clinched the final playoff spot for Plattsburgh in this year's
conference tournament.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Matt Tone (Rochester/Irondequoit), Cortland junior
Tone threw seven plus innings striking out nine batters in
a 12-3 win in game one of a SUNYAC doubleheader at Plattsburgh
this past Saturday. He allowed only three hits and no earned runs
in pushing his 2009 record to 7-0 including 4-0 in conference
games.
April 20
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Todd Allen (Oriskany/Oriskany), College at Brockport senior
Allen helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 5-1 record last week
including a split with SUNYAC for Plattsburgh this past weekend.
For the week he had a
.526 average (10-19) while scoring 10 runs. He hit five home runs
and drove in 14 runs to register a slugging percentage of 1.421.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Steve Juedes (Schenectady/Schenectady), Oneonta State senior
Juedes went 2-0 for Oneonta in two starts last week as the
Red Dragons went
4-5 overall for the week. In his two starts he pitched 13.2 innings
and allowed only nine hits and one earned run while striking out
17 batters.
April 13
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Andrew Gooch (Pearland, TX/Elkins), Plattsburgh junior outfielder
Gooch helped the Cardinals to a 4-0 week including a sweep
of SUNYAC opponent SUNY Oneonta that marked the first time Plattsburgh
has swept Oneonta in the regular season in the five years. For
the week he batted .500 (5-10) and drove in a team-best four runs.
He also had six total bases for a .600 slugging percentage and
an on-base average of .600.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Matt O'Leary (Kings Park /Kings Park), Plattsburgh freshman
O'Leary fired a two-hit, 1-0 shutout of SUNY Oneonta leading
Plattsburgh to a victory in game one of a conference doubleheader
on Friday. The freshman started the game by retiring 12 of the
first 13 batters he faced (one reached on error), and allowed
a runner to second base only three times. O'Leary is now 6-0 on
the year with a 2.17 earned run average.
April 6
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tom McCormick (Utica/Utica Notre Dame), Brockport sophomore
McCormick helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 record last
week that included a 12-8 win against nationally ranked Rochester
and a doubleheader sweep of Oswego. For the week, McCormick hit
.417 with three runs batted in while scoring two runs. Two of
his RBIs came with the bases loaded in the top of the 11th to
break an 8-8 tie against Rochester.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ricky Carlson (Frewsburg/Frewsburg), Fredonia senior
Carlson's complete game, eight strikeout performance against
nationally ranked Cortland earned him the conference honor this
week. Carlson went the distance in his team's 8-4 win against
Cortland to earn his fourth win of the season against no defeats.
March 30
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Andrew Pezzuto (Hastings/Hastings), Cortland sophomore
Pezzuto led Cortland to a 3-1 record last week including a
doubleheader sweep of Oswego to open its SUNYAC schedule. For
the week he hit .643 that included a 3-for-3 performance with
a double and a sacrifice fly in an 11-5 home win against Cazenovia.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Dave Filak (Scotia/Burnt Hills), Oneonta sophomore
Filak recorded two wins last week for Oneonta, who put together
a 4-1 record overall including winning 3-of-4 this past weekend
to begin conference play. This past Saturday, Filak threw a complete
game, two-hit shutout with a career high 13 strike outs against
Fredonia, who entered the game leading Div. III in team batting
average at .407. In 11 innings of work he allowed only three hits
and no runs while recording 18 strike outs.
March 23
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Josh Greco (Lockport/Lockport), Fredonia sophomore
Greco hit .533 for the week in helping to lead the Blue Devils
to a 5-1 record. He posted a .600 on-base percentage and a .733
slugging percentage while scoring seven runs and driving in nine
for the week.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Billy Davis (Plattsburgh/Plattsburgh), Plattsburgh senior
Davis was the stopper out of the bullpen for the Cardinals
last week, who went 6-3 overall for the week. Of the six wins,
Davis recorded five saves for Plattsburgh. The five saves established
a Plattsburgh single season record while giving Davis 12 for his
career, which is also a program record.
March 17
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Pete Lusk (Albion/Albion), Fredonia senior
In a 3-0 week for Fredonia in Ft. Myers, Fla., Lusk went 7-for-11
with a
home run and seven runs batted in. He drove in a career high five
runs in a
10-6 win against Southern Vermont.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Mike Center (Schenectady/Schenectady), Oneonta freshman
Center helped lead Oneonta to an 11-1 record on its season
opening trip to
Cocoa Beach, Fla. last week. Out of the bullpen, Center appeared
in five
games for the Red Dragons and recorded three saves. In 6.1 innings
he
allowed only two hits and no runs while striking out seven batters.
March 9
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt Kelley (Mechanicville/Stillwater), Plattsburgh senior infielder
Kelley led Plattsburgh to a 4-1 record last week during the
Cardinals'
spring trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. His totals for the five games
included a .600 batting average (12-20) and a slugging percentage
of 1.050 as he collected 21 total bases. He ended up hitting two
home runs and driving in 15 runs including a career high six RBIs
in a 15-4 win against Manchester.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jason Shannon (Liverpool/Liverpool), Brockport senior
Shannon started his senior campaign with a strong seven inning
performance that included a career high nine strike outs in an
11-1 season opening win for the Golden Eagles against Rutgers-Camden.
Shannon scattered seven hits over the start and allowed one earned
run while walking only one batter.
