PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kris Gentzke - Brockport outfielder/pitcher
Freshman (Clarence/Clarence)
Gentzke led the Golden Eagles to a 6-0 record last week including
a doubleheader sweep of Oswego to help Brockport earn its seventh
consecutive trip to the conference tournament. For the week, Gentzke
hit .444 with seven RBIs and a team-high 10 runs.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Dave Filak - Oneonta
Freshman (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake)
Filak performed as a seasoned veteran for the Red Dragons,
earning a win and two saves in an 8-0 week for Oneonta. He earned
his two saves in a must-win doubleheader sweep against Plattsburgh,
allowing no hits and no runs in 1 1/3 innings of work over the
two games.
Filak's win came against SUNYIT in game two of a
doubleheader sweep this past Saturday. He threw seven innings
and allowed only four hits and one run while striking out five
batters.
April 21
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ben Bushey - SUNYIT first baseman
Senior (Hoosick Falls/Hudson Valley CC)
Bushey recorded two walk-off RBI-singles this weekend to lead
SUNYIT to a pair of comeback wins over Brockport on Saturday and
Fredonia on Sunday. He went 7 for 15 (.467) with five RBIs and
six runs scored in the four SUNYAC games and batted .462 with
12 hits, five doubles, a triple and 13 RBIs in a 6-2 week for
the Wildcats. Bushey recorded at least one RBI in all eight contests
this week and finished with a slugging percentage of .731.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Zachary Potter - New Paltz
Senior (Pine Plains/Pine Plains)
Potter used a career-best 12 strikeouts to lead the Hawks
to a 5-1 win over Oswego. Potter is now 5-1 on the mound with
60 strikeouts on the season in 48 2/3 innings pitched. He currently
stands second on the Hawks' career strikeout chart with 119.
April 14
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rob Maxwell - Brockport first baseman/pitcher
Senior (Amherst/Sweet Home)
Maxwell hit .545 on the week, leading the Golden Eagles to
six wins. He ended the week with 12 RBIs in eight games, including
the game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning to
beat New Paltz, 3-2, on Sunday. He also hit a two-run homerun
in the 9-0 rout in the first game against the Hawks.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Matt Kelley - Plattsburgh
Junior (Mechanicville/Stillwater)
Kelley earned a save in both ends of a SUNYAC doubleheader
sweep of SUNYIT and allowed just two earned runs in his first
start of season in a tough 5-4 loss at No. 5 and 3-time defending
conference champion Cortland. For the week, he posted an 0-1 record
with two saves and 1.93 earned-run-average.
April 8
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jordan Basile - Fredonia outfielder
Junior (Jamestown/Jamestown)
In three games last week for the Blue Devils, Basile hit .615
(8 of 15) while driving in five runs. He had a career-best four
hits in a losing effort against Oswego while driving in two of
the three Fredonia runs in the game.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Matt Tone - Cortland
Sophomore (Rochester/Irondequoit)
Tone tossed the 16th no-hitter in school history last week
for Cortland in an 11-0 victory in game one of a doubleheader
against Oswego. In the game he struck out a career-high 13 batters
including the first six he faced.
Tone's performance is believed to be the first nine-inning
no-hitter since 1964 for Cortland.
March 31
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Terlecky - New Paltz second baseman
Junior (Binghamton/Binghamton)
Terlecky hit .545 last week in a 1-2 week for the hawks that
included a split with plattsburgh in the conference opener for
both squads. He had a .545 slugging percentage and .545 on base
percentage. Terlecky also drove in four runs.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Matt Bauman - Fredonia
Senior (Alden/St. Francis)
In his only start last week, Bauman scattered three hits over
six innings while striking out five batters in a 9-2 win against
Keuka.
March 25
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Todd Hughes - Plattsburgh outfielder/first baseman
Senior (Malone/Franklin Academy)
Hughes hit .575 and posted a .878 slugging percentage for
Plattsburgh on their spring trip. He recorded 19 hits in 33 at-bats,
including four doubles, two triples and three home runs. He is
currently tied atop Plattsburgh's all-time home run list with
10.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ryan Hooper - Cortland
Senior (Red Hook/Red Hook)
Hooper struck out a career-high 11 batters in Cortland's victory
over Old Westbury. He is 2-0 this season with a 2.45 ERA. Hooper
has recorded 18 strikeouts and has walked only one batter in 14
2/3 innings.
March 17
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ben Bushey - SUNYIT first baseman
Senior (Hoosick Falls/Hudson Valley CC)
Played in all of SUNYIT's 10 games last week and hit .392
with 12 RBI's. The highlight for the week was a 7-for-7 performance
with two home runs, four doubles and 10 runs batted in, in a doubleheader
sweep against Daniel Webster.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jimmy Donohue - New Paltz
Senior (Deer Park/Deer Park)
In his only outing of last week, Donohue pitched a complete
game, six-hit shutout in leading the Hawks to a 2-0 win against
Mitchell. In the game, he struck out seven batters while only
walking one for the Hawks, who are currently 5-3 on their Florida
spring trip.
March 10
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jared Perham - Brockport third baseman/pitcher
Senior (Camden/Camden)
Perham was 4-for-8 in a doubleheader against defending national
champion Kean (NJ) University. Making his first collegiate starts
at third base, he recorded one double and drove in one run in
the two games.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Sam Ackerman - Oneonta
Senior (West Burlington/Edmeston)
Ackerman started his 2008 season this past Saturday by striking
out a collegiate career-high 12 batters in a season-opening win
against Baruch. He pitched seven innings and allowed three hits
and two earned runs while walking no one.
