Cortland, Brockport, Oneonta, Plattsburgh all return to tournament
FREDONIA, NY - All four teams from the 2003 SUNYAC Baseball
Tournament are back with their eye on the 2004 conference title and automatic
berth into the NCAA Tournament.
For the seventh time in a row since moving from a two-division conference
to one, Cortland has claimed the conference regular-season title and earned
the top seed and right to host the tournament.
The Red Dragons finished the 2004 conference campaign 13-1, with their only
loss coming at the hands of the Red Dragons of Oneonta. Brockport is the No.
2 seed, finishing conference play with a 10-4 record, while Oneonta earned
the seed at 8-6. Plattsburgh ended up tied with Oswego at 7-7 but advanced
to the tournament thanks to favorable tie-breaker procedures. The Cardinals
kept themselves alive this Saturday with a 12-run comeback in the final three
innings of a 13-12 win over the Lakers and moved past Oswego in the tie-breaker
thanks to splitting their season series with Brockport. The Lakers were swept
by the Golden Eagles.
The tournament begins Friday, April 30 at 10 a.m. when #3 Oneonta battles
#2 Brockport. The two teams split their two conference games earlier this
season.
