BROCKPORT ENDS CORTLAND'S TITLE REIGN IN MEN"S BASEBALL
Golden Eagles shutout Red Dragons 4-0 and 1-0 to claim the crown

CORTLAND, NY – Brockport, thanks to consecutive shutouts over Cortland, captured its first SUNYAC baseball title since 1975 and earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. Cortland had won the past seven league championships and 12 of the last 13.

In the first game of the day, Brockport senior Shawn Mahoney (Corning/Corning East) threw a complete-game, seven-hit shutout and Tim Wilson's (Long Beach/Long Beach) drove in two runs in the ninth inning to seal the win. Mahoney started game two with junior Jason Waite (Rochester/Eastridge) taking over in the second inning. Waite gave up just three hits in four innings of work to pick up the win. Senior Ben Kimball (Bainbridge/Bainbridge) threw the final four innings allowing only two hits and no walks to pick up the save. The Golden Eagles got the only run they'd need in the fourth inning when junior Ryan Mohr (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) singled in Matt Johnson (Kingston/Kingston).

NCAA regional play for the Golden Eagles is set to begin on May 20. The Red Dragons will have to hope for one of just three at-large bids into this year's tournament field.
